My name is Matt Newkirk. My wife Chelsea and I both grew up in Northeastern Wisconsin and currently reside in Atlanta, GA. We have 4 children: 3 daughters (Hailey 19, Sofia 9, & Aubree 2) and a 7 month old son named Winston. As you can see, we definitely have our hands full. Not many people can say they’re discussing college tuition payments with one child while changing another’s diaper, lol.
We spend most of our spare time outdoors with our children. Our weekends involve parks, bicycles, outdoor games and grilling. My wife and I also enjoy cooking while enjoying a glass of wine to wind down. We definitely have busy lives but we cherish our family time above all else. On our trips we enjoy traveling to National Parks and are trying to instill a sense of appreciation for the world’s magnificent outdoors in our children.
I consider myself one of the luckiest guys in the world. I came from a modest upbringing in northeastern Wisconsin and now live a life that I wouldn’t trade for anything. I have an amazing wife, 4 children who are my entire world, a successful business and we have everything we could ever need. And we never forget the role our customers play in making this all a reality.
I own Midwest Closeouts, a wholesale jewelry company specializing in closeout fine jewelry. We acquire closeout jewelry directly from manufacturers and resell it to independent jewelers throughout the U.S. and other parts of the world. I have been in the closeout jewelry business for 15 years and it is all I have done in my professional career. We have sales people on the road and exhibit at regional trade shows as well.
We focus on 3 things: Value, Service and Support. We believe we offer the industry’s most competitive pricing, we focus on skus that will offer the independent the quickest turn at the highest margin, we stand behind our product 100% with a no questions asked return policy and we help assist independents with social media.
I stumbled into the jewelry business at the age of 23 with no prior exposure to the industry and absolutely no knowledge of it. And I couldn’t be more thankful that I did. I love people and I value relationships and this industry has helped me establish relationships with countless people that I will forever cherish. It’s a true blessing to be able to wake up every day and love going to work.
What I love about JHJ is that it’s another great reminder that people are our greatest asset and always will be. 20,000 people coming together daily to help, assist, consult, buy and sell. In a time where a lot of focus is on data, evolving technology, and changing trends, I believe it’s important to remember what truly makes the difference, and that’s people. My entire life I’ve always been blessed with people: my parents, my wife, my children, my mentor, my customers, my suppliers, and now many people on JHJ. JHJ is a collection of our greatest assets all brought together and I hope everyone else is able to benefit from it as much as I have.
